Modern Family Dining Room Tour
Each room starts with one piece of furniture. Something that you fall in love with and can really envision in the room. For this dining room, it started with the dining table. I envisioned a long, oval, tulip based table with a marble top. I fell in love with the idea of that table in this space.
Sadly, that style of table, in the size I needed with a marble top was super pricey and seemed too nice for this stage of life with kids. So I searched for other options to create the same look and style that I love but on a more realistic note.
Enter, my talented, vintage sleuth of a friend Nova who happened to have a vintage version she was willing to part with. It’s beautiful. It holds up so well to our day to day shenanigans. I couldn’t be happier with it!
My main goal in this room was for it to feel casual and easy. I really needed to find pieces that were kid-friendly, read: as stain resistant as possible, but still cool and modern.
I ended up going for these chairs. And I’m so glad that I did! They are so easy to wipe down and get clean, go so well with the table and aren’t too heavy looking for this room.
I knew I also wanted a bench to break up the seating a bit. It was really hard to find any kind of fabric that cleaned well. I just didn’t want to worry about constant, inevitable staining.
Alllll the velvet furniture I looked at! It was all so beautiful, but I digress, not a realistic option at this time.
I ended up using this outdoor bench that we used in our last home’s entryway. It’s so easy to clean and holds up so well. The bench is from IKEA, as is the light fixture.
I love to use outdoor furniture inside because if it can withstand the elements, it can probably withstand my kids.
The painting is a special piece that Nova painted and is my favorite thing ever.
The rug is from Tuesday Morning. I have found so many good rugs there. Not huge investment pieces but great quality.
And of course, our neon sign was the most exciting part of this room for me. I just had to have this. It fits us so well! We love to go out and explore but nothing, absolutely nothing, beats a family movie night at our house. Not to mention how relevant these words became during quarantine
After so much searching and even considering DIY’ing something, I finally found this cabinet at Home Goods. The perfect size and great for storing some serving pieces and hiding all sorts of clutter.
